Review: Tom's of Maine Simply White Toothpaste

Tooth whiteners have become incredibly popular in recent years, but many options increase tooth sensitivity and contain harmful chemicals.  I have always liked the idea of gradually whitening with each brush, reducing buildup and leaving brighter teeth with a simple toothpaste swap.  Tom's of Maine makes a good natural whitening toothpaste called Simply White, which I have reviewed below.

Pros:
  • Nice mint flavor
  • Slight lather to it
  • Leaves teeth feeling fresh
  • Light whitening effect
  • Also has cavity protection
  • Affordable (just under $5)
  • Easy to find in stores
Cons:
  • Contains controversial sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
Summary:
If you're looking for a natural alternative to conventional whitening toothpastes, Simply White is a good option.  It is close in texture and performance to traditional toothpastes while being a gentler alternative.  It's nice that there are two different flavors available: clean mint and sweet mint.  However, there are some who prefer toothpastes without SLS and fluoride, so it should be noted that both are in the current formulation.  I'd love to see a version without SLS in the future.
