Review: Manic Panic Creature of the Night Eye Wear Glossy Mascara

UPDATE: This line has been discontinued.

A common misconception regarding vegan cosmetics is that they are expensive products made for "hippies," and will likely not perform as well as traditional cosmetics.  Fortunately, there are some fun companies who package and market their products in creative ways.  Manic Panic is one such company, as they have rock star style and cool packaging.  Below is a review for their Creature of the Night Eye Wear Glossy Mascara.

Pros:
  • Great volume (only needs one good application)
  • Fun packaging
  • Won't flake
  • Nice rich black
  • Affordable ($10)
Cons:
  • Contains parabens
Summary:
I really enjoy this mascara for its fantastic volumizing effect and lovely packaging.  It is a great deep black and definitely adds some drama.  However, my main issue is that it contains parabens, a controversial preservative.  The ingredients are relatively safe but the product itself is not the most "green."  I'd love to see Manic Panic reformulate their line to remove the parabens at least and perhaps consider recycled or recyclable packaging, as it would allow them to reach out to the natural cosmetics audience as well.
