Review: Avalon Organics Vitamin C Soothing Lip Balm

On a recent trip to Target, I was delighted to discover a natural lip balm on clearance. It was a larger than average size, and came in a fun orange tube. Fortunately, this was only on clearance at my store, and is still available elsewhere. What is this special balm? Avalon Organics' Vitamin C Soothing Lip Balm.

Pros:
  • Affordable
  • Retail availability
  • Wide-mouthed tube
  • Nice texture
  • Relatively gentle formula
Cons:
  • Contains beeswax
Summary:
This balm has a nice, smooth texture and is easy to apply. The wide-mouthed tube is great for a generous application, or if you have plump lips. I was surprised to see this rates a 6 on EWG Skin Deep database, which I'm not sure is very accurate. Ingredients that occur naturally from essential oils, including citral, eugenol, limonene, and linalool, weigh down the rating. I suspect the hazard should be closer to a 3 or a 4. Overall, it was a gentle balm with a pleasant citrus scent, and I'd love to see a vegan version.
