Restaurant Review: Austin's Mother's Cafe

Vegan pancake, muffin, and new potatoes
I'd heard about Mother's Cafe a long time ago, but I never got around to visiting. I was excited when a friend suggested meeting there, as I'd been looking forward to trying it for some time. Mother's is a vegetarian restaurant with a fun atmosphere that's been an Austin establishment since 1980.

Pros:
  • Spacious dining room
  • Vegan options clearly marked
  • All-vegetarian
  • Central Austin location
  • Uses some organic ingredients
  • Affordable ingredients
Cons:
  • May need to park in neighborhood
Summary:
I really enjoyed the casual vibe and bright, spacious dining room at Mother's. We went on a weekend, so we were able to enjoy the brunch menu. There was even a man playing live marimba music, which created a nice atmosphere. The menu had a nice selection of cafe food, including the usual soups, salads, and sandwiches as well as some Tex-Mex options. Vegan items were clearly marked, and gluten-free diets can be accommodated as well. We dined with a party of vegetarians and omnivores, and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. The cafe is located in central Austin, so it is a nice destination if you are meeting friends from the other side of town. While there are some parking spaces out front, there is ample parking in the neighborhood nearby if it gets busy. If you want a fun atmosphere and a nice place to meet friends open to vegetarian food, this is a great place to dine.
