Review: Zuzu Luxe Eyeliner and Gabriel Cosmetics Eye Liner

Zuzu Liner in Iguana
When looking for a more gentle eye liner, one of the first places I looked was my local health food store. I purchased one of Gabriel's eye liner pencils and used it until it ran out. Later, I was sent a sample of a Zuzu Luxe pencil in the shimmery green shade Iguana, and I discovered that the two pencils shared the same set of ingredients and the same manufacturer. I've reviewed them here, as one, so you can see how they performed.

Pros:
  • Several color options from classic to fun
  • Available in shimmer and matte shades
  • Soft, creamy formula
  • Retail availability
  • Gentle ingredients
Cons:
  • Matte shades may fade without primer
Summary:
These pencils come in similar but slightly different color selections. Gabriel tends to be a bit more classic, while Zuzu offers more trendy and youthful shades. Like all Gabriel products, these lines are vegan and gluten-free, which is always a plus for me. They rate about a low 2 on the EWG Skin Deep database, which is quite gentle. When I used the black matte shade from Gabriel, I found it lasted about 4-6 hours without primer. The Zuzu iguana, on the other hand, lasted all day with two layers. I suspect this has something to do with the shimmery aspect, but I think a primer would help the matte shades last longer. Gabriel tends to have good retail availability, which makes the moderate $12-14 price point more reasonable. If you're looking for quality pencils that perform similar to conventional products but have safer ingredients, Gabriel and Zuzu offer a nice selection.
