Restaurant Review: Honolulu's Peace Cafe

BBQ Tempeh Plate
On a recent trip to see family on Oahu, I was hoping to have an opportunity to try a vegan restaurant. After reviewing some options in the area, we decided to visit Peace Cafe, a vegan restaurant close to the Waikiki area. My family had already been there once without me but were eager to eat there again.

Pros:
  • High-quality food
  • Nice variety of entree options
  • Several gluten-free choices
  • Delicious yet healthy
  • All vegan
  • Organic and locally-sourced when possible
Cons:
  • Limited seating
I really enjoyed the food at Peace Cafe. I ordered a BBQ tempeh plate and also tasted the Hanoi sandwich. Both had excellent sauces. The food was generally healthy but also flavorful. There were options for those looking for gluten-free and soy-free foods as well. The portions were generous, but the food is priced slightly higher than some other casual restaurants, likely due to the high quality ingredients.

Chocolate Ice Cream
The restaurant itself is fairly small, so seating can be limited. However, there was a nice atmosphere and a relaxed feel inside. I would recommend partaking of dessert as well; there is homemade ice cream that is not to be missed. Those familiar with Japanese cuisine may enjoy some of the special touches, such as offering kinako, or soybean flour. If you're in the Honolulu area, Peace Cafe offers healthy, satisfying food that I highly recommend.
