Article: When to Toss Makeup

Mascara often lasts 4-6 months.
If your beauty bag looks anything like mine, there are several items of unknown origin. Or perhaps you remember exactly when you purchased them--and it was way back in high school. Whether your beauty bag is in need of some autumn cleaning or you're looking to discard toxic products, it's vital to go through your makeup once in awhile.

If the product needs to be trashed, the containers can usually be recycled. If a product has a recycling symbol, it might be eligible for curbside recycling. If not, clean it out and bring it to a store such as Origins, which accepts empty cosmetic packaging (regardless of brand).
