Review: Zosimos Botanicals Lipstick (updated formula)

Like a great work of art, many cosmetics require iteration to reach their full potential. Sometimes a company listens and incorporates customer comments, reformulating products to create something even better. Zosimos Botanicals is one such company, and they recently reformulated their lipsticks to be even creamier than last time I reviewed them. Read on to see how the new version stacks up.

Pros:
  • Creamier formula
  • Broad color range
  • Eco-friendly refills available
  • Sample sizes offered
  • Gentle formula with organic ingredients
Cons:
  • Not all lipsticks are vegan
Summary:
The texture of this lipstick was never a big concern for me, but I was glad to see that it was reformulated to be even creamier. It still has the consistency of a lipstick and holds its form well, but it glides on more smoothly than before. The ingredients are quite gentle, rating a low 1 on the EWG Skin Deep database. I love the broad color range, availability of samples, and many vegan options. Although a few shades still contain carmine, you can easily check them using this guide. I particularly enjoyed the garnet shade, which is a rich red made without carmine. It's also fantastic how you can order a refill by sending your empty tube back to the company. Zosimos is also run on wind power, and offers other sustainable practices which can be viewed here. If you're looking for a gentle lip color, Zosimos offers a range of sustainable vegan options.
