Review: Afterglow Cosmetics Organic Color Lock

Many mineral eye shadows can be applied wet for a more bold look. This can also help the shadow last longer. That can be great, but what if you need something stronger?  What if your eye shadow or eye liner is wearing off halfway through the work day? Eye shadow primers aren't your only option. Afterglow Cosmetics makes a product called Color Lock that can be used in a variety of ways to make your makeup last longer and look more vibrant.

Pros:
  • Multi-tasking product
  • Can be added to almost any loose powder
  • Makes colors more vivid and longer-lasting
  • Creates liquid effects from powder eyeliners
  • A little goes a long way
  • Gentle ingredients

Review: E.L.F. Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow and Essential Eyelid Primers

After a few years of dealing with creasing eye shadows, I was thrilled when cosmetic companies started making primers to solve that very issue. I found some brands that worked quite well, but they were expensive and most weren't very natural. E.L.F. offers a mineral primer, so I put it to the test to see if it was both gentle and effective.

Pros:
  • Prevents eyeshadow from creasing
  • Very affordable
  • Gentle ingredients
  • Universal shade for all skin tones
  • Easy to apply

Review: Korres Quercetin and Oak Antiageing Eye Primer

If you find yourself spending 10 minutes on your face each morning before you even start applying makeup, it might be time to start using some multi-tasking products. Korres goes beyond the call of a typical eye shadow primer with their 3-in-1 formula. It boasts benefits such as correcting imperfections and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Does their Quercetin and Oak Antiageing Eye Primer deliver on these promises?

Pros:
  • Keeps shadow from creasing
  • Increases wear time of shadow
  • Also aids with correcting dark circles
  • Avoids some of the harsh chemicals
  • Multi-tasking product
Cons:
  • Fairly expensive ($21)
Summary:
This eye shadow primer performs well for its primary purpose. The formula is creamy enough to add some correction, but a concealer does the job better. As for anti-aging benefits, I can't really speak to them since my skin isn't there yet. The formula is gentle and rates a low 2 on the EWG Skin Deep database. However, it is not vegan, so I would love to see a vegan version. If you'd like an eye shadow primer that comes with a few added benefits yet is still gentle, this one is worth checking out.

Review: Cheeky Cosmetics Eyeshadow Primer

When I first heard saw Cheeky Cosmetics on Etsy, I thought it was too good to be true.  Could there really be a company that offered a great selection of vegan (and often organic) cosmetics for a reasonable price?  I decided to put some of Cheeky's products to the test, starting with the Organic Eye Shadow Primer.

Pros:
  • Helps shadow last longer
  • Prevents shadow from creasing
  • Can be used two ways: mixed with powders before application or layered under shadows
  • Very simple, natural ingredients
  • Great price and value
  • Handmade
