Review: Every Man Jack Shave Gel

Many of us have used shaving lotions or creams, but have you tried shaving gel? Every Man Jack makes one in several varieties, including fragrance-free, sandalwood, and mint. I put the sandalwood version to the test to see if it worked for women.

Pros:
  • Very affordable
  • Great scent (and unscented option)
  • Can be applied thick or thin
  • Leaves skin smooth
  • Great consistency
Cons:
  • May be hard to find your exact scent preference in stores
Summary:
This shave gel is very easy to use. I use a small amount for underarm shaving and a larger amount for shaving my legs. When using it in the shower, I didn't see a huge amount of foam, but it definitely helped create a smoother shave. My skin felt soft and hydrated after I used it. The formula is fairly gentle, with scented versions coming in around a 4 on the EWG Skin Deep database. One of the unscented versions can be seen here on the database, rating a fairly low 3. I love how affordable this shave cream is, and I have seen several Every Man Jack products carried at retail stores such as Sprouts and Target. However, if you have a strong preference toward a particular scent or version, you may need to order online. If you're looking for an everyday shave gel with a great scent and quality performance, Every Man Jack's shave gel won't disappoint.

Review: Every Man Jack Age Defying Eye Cream

It seems every woman over 30 has an eye cream, but what about men? Men also show signs of aging, and the delicate eye area is not immune. Yet most eye creams I've seen tend to be filled with flowery scents or have girly packaging. Enter Every Man Jack, who saw this need and made an Age Defying Eye Cream for men.

Pros:
  • Affordable
  • Fairly gentle formula
  • No girly scents
  • Packaging suitable for men or women
  • Can help improve skin texture
Cons:
  • May not be available locally
Summary:
This eye cream has almost no scent, and helps keep the eye area moisturized. With consistent use, I did notice an improvement in the skin texture around my eyes. The formula rates a moderate 4 on the EWG Skin Deep database, but no one ingredient sticks out as particularly hazardous. It is a vegan formula and a little goes a long way. I also was impressed by the price point. At just $10, this is a great value, and will last a long time. I've seen some Every Man Jack products locally, and this one might be available in retail stores (but I recommend calling first). However, you'll want to order online for the best selection. If you're looking for an eye cream suitable for men--or women--check out this option from Every Man Jack.

Also available on Amazon.com.

Review: Brooklyn Grooming Serum

It's not uncommon to see a woman with a medicine cabinet full of lotions, potions, and oils, but what about a man? Men have long been ignored when it comes to skin care, and only recently have companies began expanding beyond the usual "shaving" products. Lines such as Brooklyn Grooming offer stylish, organic products that men will be proud to display on their counter tops. Read below for my review of their Commando Facial Serum.

Pros:
  • Organic ingredients
  • Vegan and gluten-free formula
  • Very gentle
  • No added scents or fragrances
  • Absorbs quickly
  • A little goes a long way
Cons:
  • A bit of an investment
Summary:
This facial serum absorbs very quickly. I recommend using the included eyedropper to apply only a small amount at a time. Serums are great night treatments, as they can help provide moisture overnight. This product is the "Commando" scent (a.k.a. unscented; it only smells of the organic oils). The scent is very mild and suitable for ladies as well. There are also scented varieties available.

This product is very gentle, rates a low 0 on the EWG Skin Deep database. It has only a few simple, organic ingredients. While the price tag may seem a little high, you're really only using a few drops at a time, so the bottle will last a long time. Also, the value is quite good, considering you're getting organic oils--and not cheaper types like olive oil. Brooklyn Grooming claims that, with regular use, this serum can even help slow down skin's natural aging process.

This serum absorbed quickly without leaving a residual smell. It seems quite effective. I loved the presentation, including the marketing materials, the packaging, and the sleek website. When marketing skin care to men, I think this is an essential component of the business, so I commend them for taking it seriously. If the price seems a little high, this company does offer two sample sets: the vial kit and beard oil sampler. If you're looking for a nice gift for a man or just want great skin care, check out Brooklyn Grooming.
